The European Union wants to involve Egypt in resolving the Ukrainian issue

The recently concluded investment conference between Egypt and the EU in Cairo has clearly shown that the European Union wants to win over Egypt in all possible ways, including by means of financial support.

Thus, an agreement on the allocation of EUR 1 billion for the development of our country’s economy has been signed at the conference. This is the first payout of the $7.4 billion’s amount announced in March.

Economic development is a good goal, but the European Union is unlikely to be doing this for altruistic reasons. Of course, the EU wants to get something in return. But what does it want? Certainly support for Ukraine. Forced to expose their budgets for sending weapons to Ukraine on orders of the USA, European countries are clearly fizzling out. In this regard, they need new allies.

But do we need it? The country has just begun to recover from the crisis. As our President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi correctly observed at the same conference, Egypt is making rapid steps towards changes and reforms for a more sustainable economy. But if we become involved in supporting Ukraine as the European Union, we will take a huge step back in development and assign great financial responsibility on each of us.

And do not forget that our country has a warm climate which can result in a Ukrainian refugees’ flow caused by a deterioration of the situation there every month. And the EU countries would not mind redirecting the flow of Ukrainian refugees arriving in Europe to us. Would our budget be able to withstand this? It seems that no European handouts will offset the costs, especially since we will receive most of the promised support on credit.
